Our client John approached us to support him in realising his vision for a lasting memorial, in remembrance of the eight men from Stockton-on-Tees who bravely volunteered to fight fascism by serving in the international brigade during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
Memorial Mural
The brief was to illustrate a full-colour reimagining of Picasso's Guernica, perhaps the most powerful anti-war painting in history, and a timeless embodiment of peace. Luckily, we like a challenge!
Our process began with a close study of Picasso's monochromatic Guernica piece, followed by an 18hr redraw as a scalable vector graphic, which we overlaid with an original palette of colours and textures to complement the mural's surroundings. It was a privilege to be involved in making this lasting memorial a reality, to honour our hometown's volunteers for liberty.
